Let’s face it—advocating for your own health can be daunting. There are first opinions, second opinions and, as a result, you’re often left confused on what to do. When it comes to women’s health, the entire process can be even more overwhelming—we either don’t make the time for ourselves or don’t want to be seen as “dramatic.”

Enter Dr. Jessica Shepherd. She's a sought-after health expert in treating, leading, and discussing women's medical issues—always with compassion, first. She's made waves in the medical community on a number of fronts: as a board-certified OB/GYN, the chief medical officer at Verywell Health, and the founder of HerViewpoint, an online health forum for women to discuss taboo topics. She's the go-to health expert on countless shows, too, such as The Today Show and CBS News, to name a few. Her latest venture, meanwhile, is Sanctum Med + Wellness, a health and wellness concierge that incorporates traditional healing methods like acupuncture, yoga, and life coaching.

Based in Dallas, Sanctum is the culmination of Dr. Shepherd's vast experience in the medical field combined with a holistic approach to healthcare—all within an oasis-like center. The mission: "Creating a model of wellness that can surpass the concept of traditional health and allow anyone to partake in when given the guidance and opportunity,” she explains.

We’re thrilled to feature Dr. Shepherd as our latest #MAKEITHAPPEN woman—below, learn more about her and how prioritizes her own health while continuously being of service to others.

My hustle...
Creating a model of wellness that can surpass the concept of traditional health and allow anyone to partake in when given the guidance and opportunity. Often our best health seems so far away and unattainable; however, how we expose our lifestyle to wellness can make all the difference in the world. Curating an exposure to wellness opens the door to create a new framework for awareness, connection, insight, and purpose.

What got me started...
The fascination with the human body and what it can do when we give it the tools to be its best.

DEBUG: core/paragraph

What clears my head...
Breathing techniques

When in doubt, I...
Pray and drink tequila

Greatest challenge—and how I overcame it...
Not letting fear be the driver of the path I'm on. I have continued to focus on the power in mindfulness and how we truly channel our desires. There is so much truth in this phase: "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

how i make it happen

DEBUG: core/paragraph

3 morning musts...
Take a moment for gratitude, thank God for another day and my children, and then taking time to set intentions for my life's day and course.

DEBUG: core/paragraph

3 life hacks...
Always have a hair tie around my wrist, coffee is a superpower, lipstick can literally save the day.

DEBUG: core/paragraph

Secret work weapons...
Having a team that believes in the mission and in you.

DEBUG: core/paragraph

Best advice received...
“Yours is the energy that makes your world. There are no limitations to the self except those you believe in."

my style

Favorite wardrobe hack...
My black pashmina always saves the day, whether for a casual add-on, formal wear cover, or travel companion when flying. And designer slides from Hermès, Christian Dior and Valentino—they're the best options to put into a suitcase because there will definitely be an occasion to wear them.

Wardrobe MVP...
Jeans and Tom Ford black heels

What I would tell my younger self about getting dressed...
Tailored looks will save the day, just when you feel it coming apart. A cinched clothing item, such as a blazer or a well-tailored T-shirt, will save the day.

Wearing Veronica Beard makes me feel...
Empowered and creating a sense of power with femininity
