Veronica & Veronica: The Holiday Edition

December 23, 2018

We chat with the Veronicas about their holiday decor and traditions—and learn the holiday hacks they always abide by, too.

What's the decor like at your house?

VMB: Our house has poinsettias everywhere inside and we have an enormous wreath out front with white lights. Our tree is traditional and elegant (like the house) with the classic white lights. It has a fuchsia ribbon wrapped around it and the angel on top is a gorgeous doll in a pink dress holding a lighted candle.
VSB: I have a more-is-more approach to decorating! I have a real love for colored lights, vintage blow molds, flocked trees and vintage Putz houses. I love candy-cane cyclamen and pink amaryllis. We have A Very Special Christmas album playing all the time and Thymes Frasier Fir candles burning.

Favorite holiday song?

VMB: “Blue Christmas” by Elvis
VSB: "Merry Christmas Baby" by Bruce Springsteen

Favorite holiday eats/sweets?

VMB: My mother’s butter cookies.
VSB: Doberge Cakes, which I get shipped in from Gambino's Bakery in New Orleans. And peppermint bark. And egg nog.

Best holiday memory ever?

VMB: When my boyfriend (now my husband) gave me a blue Tiffany box. It was a diamond feather pendant—I have never taken it off since!
VSB: When I was six and it snowed in Florida. It felt like a miracle.

Favorite gift you've given?

VMB: One year I had a loft built in the kids’ room that was installed on Christmas Eve. I’ve never seen jaws on the floor and more excitement in my life!
VSB: My favorite gift to give are delicious walnut rings, which I give to friends on Christmas Eve to heat up and eat while opening presents.

And received?

VMB: That diamond feather pendant!
VSB: The amazing photo book my husband makes for me every year. His comments are the best part.

Favorite holiday hack?

VMB: Everyone should do Secret Santa. I love the creativity and anonymity.
VSB: Wrap presents as you get them and throw away all the boxes they were shipped in so you don’t live in a shipping warehouse for the month of December. Set the table the night before your dinner and always do your flowers two days before so that they’re open and beautiful. Have big trash bags by the tree for the wrapping paper clean-up—although my friend Beth would say I should enjoy the mess and just be in the moment.
